Now on its twelfth year, the Ateneo de Manila University’s Ricardo Leong Center for Chinese Studies, together with Film Development Council of the Philippines, and Credit Suisse, with the cooperation of Ateneo Celadon, and Shangri-La Plaza and Shang Cineplex, once again bring you the Spring Film Festival this February 13 to February 18, 2018.
The film festival is organized every year to promote Chinese language and culture in mainstream Philippine society, particularly among young Filipinos, so that they may become bridges between the Philippines and China.
Following the successful launch of the yearlong festival “Czech Movie Gems” last month, the
black and white propaganda piece, Smugglers of Death also known as King of Šumava now
takes center stage. Despite having the typical look of a propaganda piece in a similar vein as
dozens of other films in the then-Socialist bloc; Smugglers of Death was considered a
distinctive art piece for its cinematic point of view that garnered it an audience of over four
million viewers after its release in 1959.
28 November 2017 -- The Luang Prabang Film Festival (LPFF) has selected 10 projects from across Southeast Asia to participate in its 2017 Talent Lab, to be led by Tribeca Film Institute® (TFI). The Lab, which will focus on grant writing and project pitching, will be held during the opening weekend of the eighth annual festival, which will take place 8-13 December 2017.
LPFF is a yearly celebration of Southeast Asian cinema held in Luang Prabang, a UNESCO World Heritage town in northern Laos that lacks a single working movie theater. With inclusivity as core to its mission, all festival events are free and open to the public.
The 10 selected projects, which are in various stages of production, come from six countries from the ASEAN region: Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, and Thailand. The pool is equal parts documentary and narrative features, with five projects of both genres participating. Attendees taking part in the Talent Lab will include directors, writers, and producers behind the films.
The Embassy of Hungary in the Philippines and Shangri-La Plaza are proud to present the first Hungarian Film Festival in Manila on 1-2 December 2017. The event will showcase four critically acclaimed films never before screened in the Philippines.
A line-up of latin cinema takes place at the first CINE LATINO - Latin American Film Festival at Shangri-La Plaza’s Shang Cineplex on December 6 to 10. Highlighting a mix of drama, comedy, romance and relevant flicks, the festival is set to introduce films from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Panama and Venezuela that are truly unforgettable.
Cannes Film Festival Best Director Brillante Mendoza began the first round of Masterclass sessions for Pixelworx: Cinemansanas 2017 last August 12 and 13. The 23 selected filmmakers embarked on a journey with the award-winning director who lent his expertise on acting, directing, and cinematography.The exclusive sessions were held at the Power Mac Center Apple Authorized Training Provider in Arnaiz Avenue, Makati City. Participants underwent extensive training and experienced hands-on activities during the sessions, which aim to help them bring film ideas to life.
