Renowned sculptor Daniel de la Cruz lets us in on some of his darker works.
Known for his graceful sculptures of the female form, Daniel de la Cruz revealed a different side to his practice earlier this year at Art Fair Philippines. The exhibited works were part of a series of sculptures that recalled the strange world of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland.

This literary reference set a new direction for the artist, playing up the idea of whimsy, and combining it with the artist’s own mastery of the female form. His latest works, however, have taken a decidedly macabre turn. Skulls, human anatomy, and twisted compositions are the images that adorn these works, pointing perhaps to the sinister side of Carroll’s books.
