Pineapple Lab—a creative hub that gives prominence to the works of art makers—opened their current exhibition last Thursday, 13th of July, entitled: The Undercurrent which features a miscellany of visual contemporary artworks by thirty Filipino artists based in and around Manila, who are under the age of thirty.

The exhibit celebrates the brilliance of 30 young artists namely Kris Abrigo, Ramon Afable, Jappy Agoncillo, Vida Alegre, Jill Arteche, Che Bantayan, Reen Barrera, Kristin Caguiat, Chino Carlo, Pato Casabuena, Rob Cham, Art Tavera, Paulo Correa, Nino Cubacub, Uriel Cui, Claudine Delfin, Nika Dizon, Chalk Zaldivar, Isobel Francisco, Jan Fresco, Rachel Halili, Soleil Ignacio, Miguel Luis, Alfred Marasigan, Loren Mendoza, Gabby Nazareno, Ivy Pangilinan, Vincent Quilop, RC RC, Adam Red, Mark Jeffrey Santos, and Veronica Laurel.
These young artists have been dominating different avenues of contemporary visual arts—may it be traditional or digital painting, sculpture or mixed media. The works in Undercurrent show how these era of artists envisage the environment of today’s generation. The artistic styles and techniques that they used give light to millennial art, given that these dextrous artists are millennials themselves.

The open reception which was attended by different kinds of people—young and young at heart, who went to support the arts and the local artists—is yet another successful event for the team of Pineapple Lab headed by Ms. Fiona Lazaro, their Special Programs and Gallery Manager; and of course, the thirty artists behind the artworks. An art event like this is an attestation that art is perennial and is continuously celebrated—for generations to come.
