Yasmin Almonte is an educator from the University of the Philippines College of Fine Arts.
As a practicing Artist since 1987, she has been involved In numerous solo and group exhibitions in the Philippines and abroad.
She holds a Masters of Arts degree in Painting from the University of Northern Iowa where she also graduated Summa Cum Laude, Bachelor of Arts in Art Teaching Licensure Program (K-12th grades). Before this, she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Painting, Magna Cum Laude, from the University of the Philippines. It was then that she was proclaimed one of the “Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines” by the then Department of Education, Culture and Sports.
As an educator, she has been a recipient of several prestigious awards from the University of the Philippines, the latest being the Centennial Professorial Chair Award.
Almonte was also an art expert for Mead Johnson (2009-2010) where she wrote articles and gave talks focusing on the artistic development of children between the ages of 5-18 years old. She was also the Shadow mentor/syllabus writer of ABS-CBN’s “I SHINE” a programme geared towards the artistic development of the youth.
Having taught in the Philippines, Europe and the United States, Prof. Yasmin Almonte still continues to facilitate workshops, gives artist talks and is an active participant in the evolution of future artists of our Country.
Her annual solo exhibit in Sining Kamalig, Ali Mall, Araneta Center: Thoughts and Intentions, will open on 14 January 2018 at 5PM (17H) and will run until 7 February 2018. Her artworks are a caboodle of random thoughts allowed to wander, permitting the composition to emerge as each art piece matures and evolves producing exquisite forms of pure emotion and intent.
